Joseph Yossi Chetrit is Professor Emeritus of Socio-Pragmatics, French Linguistics and Judeo-Arabic Linguistics at the University of Haifa. His research deals with numerous aspects of Jewish Culture in North Africa, including Judeo-Arabic, Judeo-Berber, discourse, Hebrew and Judeo-Arabic poetry, Andalusi Music, modernization, identity, proverbs, history, etc. He published numerous books and more than 100 articles and monographs on these issues. He is also director of the series Miqqedem Umiyyam and the founder and manager of the musical ensemble Tsfon-Ma’arav. Before his retirement, he was Dean of Humanities and Vice Rector of the University of Haifa.
