About me

Jane Gerber is Professor Emerita of History and Founder and Director of the Institute for Sephardic Studies at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She is the author of six books including The Jews of Spain (National Jewish Book Award), Jewish Society in Fez, and Cities of Splendor in the Shaping of Sephardi History (forthcoming).She has been a Visiting Professor at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jewish Theological Seminary and Yeshiva University. She served as President of the Association for Jewish Studies, co-chair of the Academic Advisory Council of the Center for Jewish History, and chair of the advisory board of the American Sephardi Federation.
